2027 Deadline: Is Your Home or Rental Smoke Alarm Compliant?
What you need to know about the Queensland smoke alarm legislation—and why it matters.
Big changes are coming to Queensland smoke alarm laws. By January 1, 2027, every owner-occupied home in Queensland must be fitted with:
✅ Photoelectric smoke alarms (not ionisation)
✅ Alarms that are hard-wired to mains power or powered by a non-removable 10-year lithium battery
✅ Alarms that are interconnected—so if one goes off, they all do
These alarms must be installed on each storey, in every bedroom, and in hallways or between areas where people sleep.
It’s a major step forward for fire safety—but also a logistical challenge for homeowners, landlords, and property managers across the state.
One often-overlooked issue? Access.
High ceilings, stairwells, and difficult placements mean people often skip testing their alarms, delay replacements, or remove them altogether when they start beeping.
🔧 Compliance Isn’t Enough—Usability Matters Too
At PopSmoke, we’re solving that hidden problem.
Our patent-pending self-lowering smoke alarm mechanism allows residents, property managers, or service teams to easily bring the alarm down to a reachable height—without ladders or tools.
That means:
Safer, easier maintenance
Faster compliance checks
Greater independence for elderly or mobility-impaired residents
As the 2027 deadline approaches, don’t just aim for compliance. Aim for practical, lasting safety that works for everyone.
